Turton Local History Society - Full list of Publications
The Society was formed in 1974 with the aim of promoting an interest in history in general and of the Turton area in particular by discussion and research.

The area in question encompasses the old Urban District of Turton which includes the ancient townships of Bradshaw, Edgworth, Entwistle, Harwood, Longworth, Quarlton and Turton.

From September to May inclusive meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm in the Barlow Institute, Edgworth where talks and discussions take place. Summer monthly meetings are often walk-abouts within the district.

To-date there are 22 published booklets on local topics researched from deed, maps and documents loaned from private possession, backed by existing public records.

The society provides slid shows, talks and walk-abouts for local schools and societies on Turton local history. Contact the secretary Mr JF Horridge on 01204 533561
