| The
Society was formed in 1974 with the aim of
promoting an interest in history in general and
of the Turton area in particular by discussion
and research.
The area in
question encompasses the old Urban District of
Turton which includes the ancient townships of
Bradshaw, Edgworth, Entwistle, Harwood,
Longworth, Quarlton and Turton.
From September to
May inclusive meetings are held on the third
Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm in the Barlow
Institute, Edgworth where talks and discussions
take place. Summer monthly meetings are often
walk-abouts within the district.
To-date there are
22 published booklets on local topics researched
from deed, maps and documents loaned from
private possession, backed by existing public
records.
The society
provides slid shows, talks and walk-abouts for
local schools and societies on Turton local
